The Detroit Lions gained their first victory of the 2015 season when their boat LEGEND placed first in the PRO TEAM CHALLENGE section of the 91st annual Bell's Beer Bayview Mackinac sailboat race. Based on their finish in Class H, LEGEND beat out the Detroit Tiger boat, SAY UNCLE, Detroit Pistons boat, AFFIRMED and Detroit Red Wings boat IRISH MIST in that order. In its 6th year, the PRO TEAM CHALLENGE is presented by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association (DSBA).

When asked to summarize their PRO TEAM CHALLENGE victory, LEGEND crew member, RJ Wolney said, "We were very excited to represent the Detroit Lions in the PRO TEAM CHALLENGE. Even Detroit's FATHEAD team came through with awesome Lions boat graphics that generated a lot of attention."

Wolney went on, "Although we struggled the first third of the 259 nautical mile race, we came back late Sunday afternoon and clawed our way to a PRO TEAM CHALLENGE victory. Beating the Tiger, Piston and Red Wing boats puts a nice exclamation point on a great race for us."

FOX Sports Detroit's Mario Impemba was honored with an appreciation award for his work with veterans.
The Vietnam Veterans of America, Detroit Chapter 9, along with the Metro Detroit Veterans Coalition presented the award to Impemba last night.
"I am very grateful and humbled to receive this award," said Impemba, who is in his 14th season as the Tigers play-by-play announcer. "It's an honor to recognized by the Vietnam Veterans of America and I thank them for their service to our nation."
In 2013, Impemba launched his Military Veterans Program (MVP), which brings 30 veterans of all eras and families affected by a family member's service to Comerica Park for every Monday home game. The veterans ride the FOX Sports Detroit Fan Express to the ballpark, enjoy a Tigers game, dinner and a special meet-and-greet.
"We are very proud of Mario," said Greg Hammaren, senior vice president and general manager of FOX Sports Detroit. "He's done a tremendous job honoring our hometown heroes in conjunction with his position here at FSD. Congratulations, Mario."

LUGNUTS AND THE DSBA

By Thom Lengyel
Blair Grover, a Specs Howard student who worked on the Specs Howard video crew at the DSBA 29th Annual Charity Golf outing, went over to the Lugnuts on a job-shadowing mission, following the Lansing Lugnuts public address announcer on July 17, 2015, along with Charles Kruse and Evan Petzold from Macomb Lutheran North Broadcast Club. Both Charles and Evan were on the air live with Lugnuts play-by-play man Jesse Goldberg-Strassler (DSBA Member) for a half inning each in the 7th inning. This was the DSBA Farm Bureau Insurance-sponsored event.  I worked with Jared  Feldpausch from Farm Bureau Insurance.
Charles Kruse on the Lugnuts Scoreboard. Notice the DSBA Logo at the bottom of Charles picture above the Farm Bureau ad?
"Tonight's game is being broadcast with the help of Charles Kruse who is here tonight with the help of Farm Bureau Insurance. Tim is a Junior at Macomb Lutheran North HS and a member of Lutheran North's Broadcast Club, plays on Varsity Football and Baseball teams and Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association student member."
