INTRODUCTION TO MATEBROS WITH U-M ATHLETES GAARENSTROOM & MIKULAK

Hello Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association Member:

My name is Jordan Gaarenstroom and I am a student at the University of Michigan. Together with two of my best friends, Sam Mikulak and Alex Anunciation, we are starting a company called MatéBros. A colleague of yours, George Eichorn of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association & New (Detroit) Monitor, interviewed us in November to create publicity for our company leading up to the launch of our KickStarter campaign on December 1st.

MatéBros is all-natural energy tea that the three of us have been drinking before gymnastics practices and competitions as early on as high school. Sam and I continued gymnastics at the intercollegiate level at the University of Michigan, collecting back-to-back Big Ten Conference and NCAA championship titles. Additionally, Sam represented the United States at the 2012 Olympics and is currently recognized as the top male gymnast in the country. Sam actually drank the earliest rendition of what is now MatéBros at the Olympics and that's when the real buzz began.

The key ingredient used in MatéBros is a South American tealeaf called yerba maté, or simply, maté. Maté is naturally rich in antioxidants and is known to enhance your ability to focus, increase physical endurance, and improve your mood. Maté is traditionally consumed through a gourd and bombilla and passed around in a circle with friends, which is how we were originally introduced to it. However this process is time consuming, inconvenient, and incongruent with the American energy drink market. At MatéBros, we have developed a formula that not only reaps the health benefits of maté, but one that enhances taste and conveniently serves the beverage to our customers in a can.

As our KickStarter campaign launch date rapidly approaches, we are reaching out to media outlets in order to generate awareness.  Our hope is that with your help we will reach our KickStarter goal and, ultimately, change the energy drink market for the better. Please let me know if you want to sit down, try our tea, and experience MatéBros with us! Please visit: http://matebros.com/ - and thank you!

Best regards,  Jordan Gaarenstroom + The MatéBros

"I told him about our Educational Grants for local High School and College Broadcast Curriculums and Bob was instrumental in securing the funding from Staples Foundation".

DETROIT TITANS HOST BASKETBALL MEDIA DAY ON ESPN3

Basketball season kicked off November 1st for the University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's teams, but prior to tipoff it was a day to kick back and enjoy celebrity status at the Annual Titan Media Day, held inside historic Calihan Hall.

The media and CAL Club members had the opportunity to come out and listen to a formal press conference - which was broadcast live on ESPN3 - where UDM Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr., CBS Radio Detroit General Manager Debbie Kenyon, WADL Detroit General Manager David Bangura along with both head coaches Ray McCallum and Autumn Rademacher '97 took to the podium. Dan Leach the voice of the Titans worked as the emcee.

The announcement was made that there will be an increased number of men's basketball games on the radio on 97.1 FM The Ticket and 1270 AM. The Titans will also have at least 30 men's and women's basketball games on ESPN3, along with 14 men's games televised locally on WADL and Comcast.

After the press conference concluded, the media and both teams moved to Dick Vitale Court to take part in all media requests and interviews.

Season tickets for the 2014-15 men's basketball team are now on sale. Don't miss a chance to have guaranteed priority seating to watch the Titans at historic Calihan Hall. For more information on season and general ticket information, click here or call the Detroit Ticket Office at (313) 993-1700.
