Rich Eldridge has been a DSBA member since Deceber 2004 while he was finishing up his work at as a student at the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts (now Media Arts). He is a freelance football and pro wrestling historian.
Rich began his broadcasting career while in college at a college radio station called WUPJ ‘The Beast’ from September 2001 to April 2003 at the University of Pittsbugh at Johnstown (UPJ) campus. Rich was a disc jockey on friday afternoons right when the student union cafeteria started dinner. On his Friday afternoon shows, Rich played all kinds of music along with giving out weekly NFL predictions, takes on Pittsburgh and Penn State football, and movie reviews. One set of memories Rich never forgets is how the UPJ Mountain Cat Wrestling team would come to or call him at the WUPJ studio booth and ask him the play a popular song Danger Zone (performed by Kenny Loggins in that popular movie from 1986 Top Gun) while working out at practice.
After graduating from UPJ in May 2003, Rich moved to Southfield for a couple years and attended Specs Howard. Rich took on both audio (radio) and video (TV) classes. In between those concentratons, Rich interned for The Mitch Albom Show at WJR. While Mitch was working at home or at the Free Press office, Rich got to use Mitch’s designated office as his office. Rich enjoyed his time with co-host Kenny Brown. Rich and Kenny would argue about a lot of sports-related topics and Kenny would pick on Rich like he was a fraternity pledge.
Rich finally got his foot in the door when he got to do work at WHMI from September 2006 to March 2007. His duties was traveling to assigned boys high school football and basketball games and answer phone calls from his sports director giving him current scores and intresting statistics. After a long unexpected sabitical, Rich got to come back to WHMI doing the same duties for the 2011 high school football season.
In the Summer of 2007, Rich did some volunteer work with the Gennesse County Patriots, a semi-pro football team located in Fint, MI. Rich did worked a few home games as a member of the chain crew.
Rich enjoys doing a lot freelance work to help DSBA members and friends of DSBA members. Rich got to fill in for past DSBA presient and WJR on-air radio personality Rich Kincaide for TV One broadcasted high school football game. Also, Rich worked as a spotter for high school football games.
Whether Rich is active in the radio business or not, he sends weekly e-mail newsletters during the college football season and gives out his own rankings and weekly Heisman Trophy ballot. When the Pro Football Hall of Fame voting starts taking place, Rich lobbies for the candidates who should get their call to the Hall. Also, Rich contributes some stuff to the monthly DSBA newsletter.
In his spare time, Rich enjoys watching pro wrestling, video on demand programs, and comedy and sports-related movies. Also, Rich collects football and WWE trading cards, along with autogrpahs of pro wrestlers, actors, and atheletes. Rich’s favorite sports or sports pertaining movies are Kingpin, Rocky IV, The Social Network, and Blue Chips.
Rich has enjoyed being a member of the DSBA since the late-part of 2004.
