Marty Dobek

Marty Dobek joined the Detroit Sports Commission (DSC) as Marketing/Communication Specialist in December 2011.

Prior to being hired at the DSC, Dobek served as a sports information intern with the Wayne State University Athletic Department for 13 months. He was the primary media contact for both the men’s and women’s cross country and tennis teams, as well as assisting with men’s and women’s basketball, and the football team. In addition, he served as the host media contact for the 2011 NCAA Midwest Fencing Regional and supervised the statistical operations at the 2010 Michigan High School Athletic Association Football State Championships.

From August 2006 until June 2010, Dobek worked for the Detroit Free Press covering high school and college sports including the 2008 MHSAA Football, Swimming & Diving and Competitive Cheerleading State Championships. Also, he researched and compiled information for the 2006 Detroit Tigers’ season review book, “Roar Restored.”

During his stint with the Free Press, Dobek also served as a full-time media relations intern for the Detroit Lions during the 2009-10 NFL season. There, he compiled game-day materials, such as game notes, press releases, credentials and quote sheets. Furthermore, he coordinated player interviews and assisted the website staff by writing game previews, blogs and feature stories.

Dobek started his public relations career working as a game night media relations intern for the Detroit Pistons during the 2007-08 & 2008-09 NBA seasons.

A 2005 graduate of Allen Park High School, Dobek earned his bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University in PR in August 2009. While attending WSU, he wrote for the school newspaper, The South End.

Dobek is a member of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association, United States Specialty Sports Association and Knights of Columbus.

He resides in Allen Park.
