Dan York has been affiliated with the University of Detroit Mercy since 2006 and has played a major role in all of the Titans’ Horizon League Network productions in men’s and women’s basketball. From set up to producing and announcing, York has been a major asset in the building of HLN Detroit.
York is one of the most recognized voices in sports in the Detroit market. Since 1990, he has been heard at thousands of games and at every major venue in metro Detroit.
Currently, York is the voice of Detroit Titans men’s and women’s basketball teams on HLN Detroit. Prior to that, he was one of the PA announcers at historic Calihan Hall along with Detroit radio legend Tom Ryan. He can still be heard at Eastern Michigan as the public address voice of Eagles football and for The Big Day Prep Showdown featuring the best high school football teams in Michigan. He is also the “voice of the Cougars” at Garden City High School and has provided play by play for hundreds of games on cable television in the Detroit area along with news and election coverage.
York is the owner of Omni Edition Television, which produces content for a variety of clients for which he does the majority of voice over and on-camera work.
He has also served as the PA voice for the NCAA Bowling Championships, hosted by UDM, and was the PA voice at the Compuware Sports Arena for the Detroit Ignition of the Major Indoor Soccer League and the voice of the Michigan State Fair.
He was the inaugural public address announcer for the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park and was the original host of the Joevision series for Detroit Red Wing playoff games. York has also been heard as one of the voices of the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena with the late Hall of Famer Budd Lynch and was selected as one of two announcers for soccer’s World Cup at the Pontiac Silverdome.
His versatility has also included the energetic voice of the Detroit Rockers at Cobo Arena, Joe Louis Arena, Compuware Arena, and the Palace of Auburn Hills. Along the way he was also a fixture with the Detroit Drive of the Arena Football League announcing two Arenabowl championship games and the Detroit Turbos of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League.
York has appeared on a number of Detroit radio and television ad campaigns, including “College Hockey at the Joe,” Detroit Rockers soccer, High Velocity Sports, the Downtown Garden City Santaland Parade and Garden City Hospital.
