Bernie Smilovitz brings sports to metro Detroit on Local 4 News weekdays at 5, 6 and 11 p.m. He is well known for his “Weekend at Bernie’s,”and “Bernie’s Bloopers”, as well as his traditional “We’ve got highlights.”
Bernie and Jake had an interesting father-son moment
in Cooperstown, N.Y., when they went to watch former Tiger manager Sparky Anderson’s induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Weekend At Bernie’s:
- He loves all restaurants, especially those with drive-through windows.
- He jogs three to four miles a day. He also enjoys basketball and tennis.
- His favorite book is “The Prince of Tides.”
- His favorite movie is a tie between “Animal House” and “E.T.”
When asked about his most embarrassing broadcast moment, Bernie replied, “I’m still waiting for it. It could come at any moment.”
Bernie’s Proudest Professional Achievement:
“Six local Emmys and I still have my hair.”
