The 4pm Digital Content Producer is a Local Desk position located in Southfield, Michigan

Description:

The digital producer connects the 4pm on-air news audience with an always-connected community on digital platforms, and will do so enthusiastically in live segments during the daily broadcast. This person will have their eyes and ears on all things trending, digital and social. The digital producer will be proficient in engaging a community on social media, guided by analytics that measure growth. This person will oversee the 4pm show’s web presence and Twitter and Facebook communities, as well as associated user-generated content. The digital producer will report to the local Senior Producer of the 4pm News Project.

Duties:

  • Execute a defined strategy to build and grow an engaged online community associated with the show.
  • Appear on camera on a daily basis, primarily in a role that connects online content and conversations to the on-air broadcast.
  • Explain trending stories on-air in layman’s terms.
  • Grow, maintain and serve as community manager for all Show’s social media accounts, finding and spotlighting trends and maximizing viral distribution of content.
  • Develop, edit, and create editorial content (text, photo & video) for online platforms, and work with others on the team to do the same.
  • Lead the conversation as the online voice of the show before, during and after the daily broadcast.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet multiple daily deadlines.

Education:

Bachelor degree in journalism, communications or a related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years experience in reporting, writing and editing.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing digital content.
  • Experience in growing online and social media communities.
  • Experience with standard blogging/online content management systems.
  • Experience with social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook and Twitter.
  • Previous on-air experience strongly preferred.
  • High degree of composure: Remains calm and cool under pressure.
  • Stays current and has a passion for entertainment, pop-culture and news.
  • Excellent storytelling skills (connects with and engages viewers/users).
  • Comfort with an adlib production setting.
  • Open to feedback and applying it to strengthen on-camera presence.
  • Highly comfortable and effective when working with the public and a wide array of community members.
  • Familiarity with iNews is a plus.
  • Highly active on Twitter and Facebook

Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent on-camera presence.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Troubleshooting and complex problem solving.
  • Operates with considerable latitude/independence
