Communications & PR Manager


Communications/PR Manager Responsibilities:

Leads development of a public relations and media relations strategy for Crain, in collaboration with executive leadership
Create news nuggets for the press from breaking news stories, new product launches, significant event/conference opportunities, etc.
Organize newsworthy events for consumption by the nation’s media
Use the Cision media database and a PR Newswire digital media center as support tools
Promote major news stories with all Crain brands, in coordination with editors and publishers
Create a Crain’s speakers’ bureau placing key publishers and editors in high visibility speaker roles
Develop content for the organization for external and internal communications for all channels, including print-based media, website, email, mobile, and social
Develop strategic communication plans for deploying specific messages to target audiences
Create external marketing content: press releases, web content, success stories, newsletters, etc.
Extend the reach of external communications by targeting message to specific audiences and influencers, building 3rd party credibility
Help define key messaging for product launches and other newsworthy opportunities
Secure and retain the services of a PR agency to support PR efforts globally
Must be able to work in real time and across social media platforms
Other duties as assigned

Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or public relations
Approximately 10 years of media relations and PR experience required
Demonstrated experience and success securing media interviews
Creative thinker who can develop compelling story lines and angles
A working knowledge of CNBC, CNN, MSNBC, national morning TV news programs, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today and the daily newspapers of the top 10 ADI in the country, a plus! An understanding how to find the right people at these organizations to leverage opportunity for Crain

Ability to measure work, document stories placed in local, national and regional outlets, and articulate that value to relevant stakeholders
Detail-oriented and personable
Impeccable writing skills for various audiences
Knowledge and skill with Cision and PR Newswire Digital Media Center
