From DSBA President Trevor Thompson on Passing of Mike Ilitch
February 10, 2017

Statement from Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association and President Trevor Thompson.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we at the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association extend our deepest condolences to Marian Ilitch, her children, Michael Jr., Christopher, Denise, Atanas, Ronald, Lisa, Carole, and the entire Ilitch family, in mourning the passing of Michael Ilitch Sr.,  one of the most successful, influential, and inspirational men the city of Detroit has ever known.

When it came to the world of sports, Mr. Ilitch was a champion with the heart of a lion and an insatiable competitive spirit. However, the passion this former minor league baseball player had for his beloved Tigers and Red Wings was exceeded only by his passion for the city he called home.

Detroit will forever be indebted to Mr. Ilitch for showing a generosity, commitment and belief that made him an integral part of the fabric of this proud city. He will be remembered as one of Detroit’s biggest employers, most successful entrepreneurs and boldest visionaries.

The sporting world, the business world, and we In the media have always held Mr. Ilitch in the highest regard, with the utmost respect, admiration and appreciation for the class and dignity he displayed over his decades in the public eye.

We at the DSBA recognize and celebrate his incredible legacy, while extending our sincere condolences.

Sincerely,

Trevor Thompson
President
Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association
